Stick up for the Santa Monica Pier this Monday, September 9th. Santa Monica is celebrating 110 years of this iconic structure by inviting everyone to come down for free and discounted family-friendly rides. Did you know that if it wasn't for the protests in the 1970s to protect the adjacent piers, that the skyline of Santa Monica could look much different today? If you are a history buff or just a stone-cold Santa Monica lover, come down to Ocean Avenue on the 8th and 9th to watch the reenactment of the 1972 grassroots fight to stop the demolition of the Santa Monica Pier. We know this pier is full of learning potential—from the start of its creation for fishing lessons to the aquarium—and simply the value of quality time with the people you love most. But if there is one important thing you take away from the piers 110th birthday, is the power of protest for the things we believe in!
